Endorsements & Support

It’s important to have the support of many organizations and individuals that believe in my vision and align with my priorities.

Endorsements

  • Let’s Grow Kids

My nine years at the YMCA provided insights into child care’s challenges. Quality care must be accessible and affordable to families and those working in the field deserve a livable wage. A lack of affordable child care has a ripple effect that starts with a parent’s ability to participate in the workforce. I'm proud to receive the endorsement of Let's Grow Kids Action Network.

  • VT-NEA

Having seen my wife work as a public school teacher for 30 years, I've learned so much about the challenges and needs of Vermont's incredible public school teachers, students, and their families. Support for our educators is crucial to ensure our students receive the best education possible in an accessible manner. I'm grateful for the support and endorsement of the Vermont-National Education Association.

  • National Association of Social Workers (NASW)

The support provided by social workers to our fellow Vermonters is invaluable. They, in turn, need and deserve our support. I’m particularly passionate about supporting their work to improve the mental health of Vermonters, especially our teens. I will work to bring additional awareness, education, and financial resources in support of our neighbors in crisis.

“For the 35 years I have known Doug, he has always put community first.”

— Senator Patrick Leahy

Additional Organizations Doug is aligned with:

  • Mental Health Now Candidate

Mental Health Now Candidates have committed to use their elected office to better mental health in America. Improving the mental health of people, especially teenagers, in Vermont is a priority for me, and I'm proud to say I'm a Mental Health Now Candidate 2024.

  • Gun Sense Now Candidate

The Moms Demand Action Gun Sense Candidate distinction is awarded to candidates who have demonstrated that they will support stronger gun laws and advocate for safer communities if elected into office. Our country needs this reform, and I'm proud to stand as a Gun Sense Now candidate 2024.

“Doug’s experience has given him practical, real-world opportunities to address problems and to help improve the lives of fellow Vermonters. He will put his constituents first and focus on the issues that matter. Doug has my support and I hope he earns your vote.”

— Senator Peter Welch

“Over the 15 years I’ve known Doug, he consistently demonstrates sound and reality-based thinking, tirelessly serves others, and ensures a job gets done right. Doug is always ready to listen to an alternative opinion. I cannot imagine a finer person to serve in the House!”

— Larry Crist, former Executive Director of Vermont American Red Cross

“I don't endorse candidates lightly, but Doug has impressed me. His decades-long work at the Red Cross, YMCA, and as a board member of the Boys and Girls Club are evidence of where his heart is. He's met with town and school leaders to hear their needs. He's attended countless board and commission meetings. His door to door efforts have been more listening opportunities than campaigning.

”All candidates agree what the problems facing VT are and that solutions will not be easy. We need to elect people who are equipped personally and professionally to find solutions. Doug was the VT Disaster Relief Fund Vice Chair in the aftermath of Tropical Storm Irene. He helped establish a nonprofit building and overseeing an allocations process that distributed $4 million in aid and developed relationships with stakeholders at every government level. This is the kind of person we need in Montpelier.

”Let's elect Doug to continue his public service and represent our community.”

— Maureen Dakin, Former State Representative for Colchester

“I write today in support of Doug Bishop's candidacy for State Representative of Chittenden-20. I've had the privilege of knowing Doug as both a friend and neighbor for over ten years, and in that time I have witnessed firsthand his integrity and dedication to our community.

”If asked, Doug will tell you that he is running for office because he genuinely wants to help his Colchester neighbors and strengthen our community—a commitment he demonstrates every day. Doug treats people with kindness and respect; he listens thoughtfully, considers the opinions of others, and approaches new ideas with curiosity rather than judgement. He is also the type of person who is quick to offer a helping hand.

”Most importantly, though, is one of the qualities I admire most about Doug - his unwavering commitment to follow through on a promise. If Doug says he will do something, you can count on him doing everything he can to make sure it happens. Above all else, this is why he will be receiving my vote come Election Day.”

— Sarah Bartlett, Colchester resident
